What's Liyue?

Liyue is one of the seven regions in Teyvat. It's the greatest trading port in all of Teyvat.

A bountiful harbor that lies in the east of Teyvat. Mountains stand tall and proud alongside the stone forest, that together with the open plains and lively rivers make up Liyue's bountiful landscape, which shows its unique beauty through each of the four seasons. Just how many gifts from the Geo God lie in wait amongst the rocks of Liyue's mountains?

Liyue is inspired by China. Liyue translates to “Glass Moon”. It is a mountainous region with towering peaks, deep valleys, and winding rivers. Steep cliffs and rocky formations dominate the landscape.

Culture

  • Liyue is deeply rooted in its traditions and cultural practices.
  • Liyue Harbor is said to be an economical center, similar to many port cities in China. They function as a port, where ships come and go for various goods.
  • The nation was also the sole minter of Mora due to Morax's Gnosis, some of which are kept in the nation, while the rest are sent to the other nations.
  • places like Qingce Village have managed to build terraced rice fields, whose crops can then be taken to Liyue Harbor to be sold
  • Liyue has two main culinary styles: the Li style, which focuses on bold, rich flavors using ingredients picked from the mountains, and the Yue style, which favors lighter-flavored seafood. In Liyue Harbor, Liuli Pavilion and Xinyue Kiosk are the most reputable restaurants of their respective styles.
  • The music usually has high, clear notes, and classical Chinese instruments like the erhu, guzheng and dizi are used.
  • Ancient technology constructed by gods and humans can be seen around Liyue, such as Guizhong Ballista and Dunyu Ruins.
  • Liyue typically incorporates geometric designs into its architecture and design work. Meanders are a common decorative design, and diamonds are a common shape in various emblems found throughout Liyue.
  • Scales and balances are associated with Liyue. The most commonly seen usage is on Pressure Plates.
  • Liyue also has a vast mining and smithing industry in place. Blackcliff Forge is where the Blackcliff and Prototype Series were made.
  • The fashion in Liyue seems to also take inspiration from Chinese fashion such as the cheongsam and the hanfu.

  • Lore

Ingame Liyue story line exists as a Chapter I. that consists of four acts: Act I - Of the Land Amidst Monoliths, Act II - Farewell, Archaic Lord, Act III - A New Star Approaches, Act IV - We Will Be Reunited

Arriving at Liyue Harbor, the two just arrive in time for the ceremony. As Ningguang summons Rex Lapis, he appears dead before the entire crowd. We try to sneak away from the scene, but the Millelith guards try to stop us - but we are saved, by a fatui named Childe. He sends the Traveler to Jueyun Karst to speak with an Adepti, to clear their name. In Jueyun Karst, you meet with Moon Carver, Xiao, Cloud Retainer, and Mountain Shaper where you have to gain their trust to prove your innocence. Meanwhile, Childe is helping Zhongli complete the Rite of Parting. During this time, you are invited to meet Ningguang by Ganyu and begin to gather evidence of Fatui's involvement in the death of Rex Lapis. This is interrupted and the Traveler must race to the Golden House to keep the Geo Gnosis from being stolen by Childe from the body of Rex Lapis. In the domain, you'll learn that the Gnosis isn't on the body. After an intense battle, Childe summons Osial, Overlord of the Vortex using the Sigils that were being prepared by the Fatui. With the help of the Adepti, Qixing, and the Traveler, the ancient god is defeated. Shortly after, you learn that Zhongli is the Geo Archon and is giving his Gnosis freely to La Signora. Childe was left in the dark, and Zhongli faked his death to stop being the region's Archon.

    Archon war

During the Archon War, Morax, the God of Geo, and Guizhong, the God of Dust, lived with the adepti and their people in the region now known as the Guili Plains. When the war began, they stood by each other and fought other gods. 3,700 years ago, Guizhong died in a particular battle which also ravaged the Guili Plains, and Morax took the people south of Mt. Tianheng and established Liyue Harbor. From there, Morax defended his people from other gods and monsters. Notably, he impaled various gods and sea monsters at Guyun Stone Forest with stone lances, among them Osial and the Chi of Yore. The demons that were generated, however, were hunted down and destroyed by the many yakshas tasked by Morax for this purpose.

    Yakshas

Yakshas were a race of particularly fierce illuminated beasts,[1] both in appearance and their martial prowess. To quell the lingering hatred of fallen gods from the Archon War, which caused plagues, curses, and miasmas all over Liyue, Morax called upon the yakshas to help. They waged a never-ending war against the monsters and other such manifestations of the gods' hatred. Over time, this task stained them with karmic debt which wore away at their souls and sanity. Madness and despair overwhelmed the yakshas: Some turned on each other, others succumbed to the darkness, and yet others vanished. Now, only one yaksha remains: Alatus, who currently goes by the name Xiao.

    Festivals

    Lantern Rite Festival

Lantern Rite is a festival in Liyue celebrated on the first full moon of the year and lasts for five days. It is said to be the biggest of Liyue's festivals.

    Moonchase Festival

In ancient times, the people of Liyue paid tribute to the Stove God, Marchosius; who taught the inhabitants of the Guili Assembly to create fire, and in turn, how to cook food.

    Rite of Descension

Rite of Descension is an annual event that occurs in Liyue Harbor. The Liyue Qixing invite the Geo Archon, Morax, to the mortal realm to give his divine predictions for the upcoming year, which the Qixing use to determine Liyue's policies and business trends. It is unknown how many predictions are typically made per year, but the year before the Traveler and Paimon visited Liyue, Morax gave 17 predictions. Unlike Rite of Partings, which are used to commemorate deceased adepti, the Rite of Descension appears to be open to all people and is a popular tourist attraction. Liyue people who live abroad will also often make a pilgrimage home to witness the Rite of Descension. However, life in Liyue Harbor largely continues as normal otherwise, and most of the city's residents don't attend the event.

    Chasm

The Chasm is a subregion and an area located in Liyue. In the recent past, a series of mysterious accidents led the entire mine to be closed, putting its workers out of a job. Prior to the general expulsion from Liyue, the Fatui, with Signora's help, discovered that black ooze had begun to infest the mines. The Fatui offered to deal with the ooze but failed as their device exploded and no further news was expected following Childe unleashing Osial on Liyue. Eventually, the Liyue Qixing began to slowly reopen the mine, initially restricting access to the surface area. As a result, Treasure Hoarders began to sneak into the mines for wealth. Beneath the Seven-Star Array is the Underground Mines. It is later revealed during the Traveler's descent into the Chasm that the mysterious earthquakes and black ooze was a result of possibly the Abyss Order corrupting a nail similar to the Skyfrost Nail in Dragonspine. After purifying the corruption, the earthquakes subsided and the ooze has since begun to recede. According to legend, the Chasm was formed by a falling star somewhere around 6000 years ago. Dunyu Ruins was created by a fragment of this same meteorite.
